Filter combines the work of nine artists from different backgrounds, who blend materials, techniques and conceptual frameworks that challenge and reflect both the literal and metaphorical aspects of mixed media art.
Each artist explores the constraints and possibilities of media, form and meaning, inviting the viewer to engage with the tangible, multifaceted, materiality of each work. By layering visual and narrative elements and crossing the conventional boundaries of their chosen media, artists invite the viewer to consider their understanding of ‘mixed media,’ pushing them to examine how materiality and meaning intersect. Pieces are brought together in unexpected and unique ways, with a combination of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles and printmaking.
