Throughout its history, jazz and swing has been a safe haven for women and queer musicians, with legendary vocalists, instrumentalists, and composers who left their indelible mark.
Join the Hamilton Big Band as we celebrate and commemorate those who pushed the bounds and paved the way, with the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter, Ethel Waters, and more. Under the batons of two homegrown guest conductors Ashleigh Smith (TWSO, Parade) and Charlie Garcia-Gil (Hamilton City Brass, Next to Normal), the Hamilton Big Band explore the swing era, Stonewall, and contemporary artists today.
This concert will feature HBB’s first-time performances of works by Maria Schneider and Roberta Flack. This one’s not to be missed for any jazz fans!
