DESCRIPTION:Behind the Practice \nAn exhibition by the Arts for Health team \nBehind the Practice celebrates the creativity behind one of Hamilton’s longest running creative spaces. The exhibition brings together a range of artworks made by the staff of Arts for Health. \nFor 39 years\, Arts for Health has been a place for creativity\, connection\, and wellbeing in the community. This show offers a chance to step behind the scenes and see the personal art practices of the people who help keep the space running every day. \nThe exhibition includes sculpture\, painting\, and Korean paper art\, showing the variety of skills and interests within the team. Each work reflects individual expression\, as well as the shared creativity that sits at the heart of Arts for Health. \n\nPlease join us at the opening event for Behind the Practice on Wednesday 17th June\, 1pm. \nThe Nancy Caiger Gallery is open 11am-2pm from Wednesday to Saturday. DESCRIPTION:Sometimes all you need to inspire change is a piece of gum. \nCo-written by Te Wehi Ratana and Tainui Tukiwaho \nDirected by Tainui Tukiwaho \nIn December 2023 the group ‘Te Waka Hourua’ set the country alight when they painted over the English Treaty of Waitangi Exhibition at Te Papa to read… ‘No. Her Majesty the Queen of England the alien. ration the Queens veges.’ This ‘redaction action’ provoked strong opinions across Aotearoa – some sang their praises\, others called for blood. While all of the artists were charged\, only one received prison time: Te Wehi Ratana. \nThis uplifting new one-man play is inspired by true events\, and shares the remarkable experience of the abseiling activist during his 48 hours at Rimutaka Prison. \nRation the Queen’s veges is a story of how one action can inspire change in unlikely places. It is a story about the quiet voice of defiance that still burns within us even when we are silenced – a piece of gum and Brian\, Te Wehi’s ingenious cellmate\, were all that was needed to fan the flames and hear them roar. \nPremiere season presented by Te Pou Theatre in partnership with Auckland Arts Festival 2025\, with support from Circa Theatre. \n\nContent warning: This show contains coarse language that may be offensive to some. \nRunning time: 50 mins\, no interval.
