Voices of Madness

Wednesday, 13th September 2023, 11:00 am - Saturday, 23rd September 2023, 2:00 pm

He tangata tonu te tangata, ahakoa te aha. // A person is still a person, no matter what.

Being judged for experiencing mental distress is a heavy load to bear. Stigma is a social injustice, an error of society. Eradicating it is the responsibility of and should be the priority of that society.

This Exhibit has been curated by Centre 401 to run during Mental Health Awareness Week to showcase the creative expressions of individuals who have lived experience of Mental Illness. The other purpose of this exhibit is to start a conversation about a topic that is still taboo.

At Centre 401 Trust we aim to empower our members by helping give them a voice, and to work alongside them on the journey of recovery.  We hope that this exhibit will allow those who experience both social stigma and self-stigma to feel empowered by having a voice to share their experiences.

We would like to thank The Meteor for hosting this and joining the fight to end stigma around Mental Illness, as well as Carving in Ice Theatre Company for their production of The Manic Monologues in collaboration with this exhibit as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

This exhibition at the Nancy Caiger Gallery is open 11-2pm Wednesday-Saturday and from 1hr before show start times at the Meteor Theatre.
