Te Wai a Rongo is an exhibition by Bridy Rihari-Lundun a young descendant of Waikato and Ngapuhi who is currently working towards her masters degree at Toihoukura the School of Maori Visual Arts, specialising in painting. The title refers back to Rongomaraeroa, Rongo noho-a-whare connecting ira atua to ira tangata. This is a collection of mixed media works that draws from karakia, particularly Waerea within the movements and evolutionary changes in the Waikato region. In this exhibition, the works displayed offer an allegorical interpretation inspired by the original transcript and traditional narratives. In this series, to honour both the spiritual and physical dimensions; the components used symbolises the ultimate depth of korero. The colour palette used int he collection is to reflect the taiao. The taiao is known to manifest stillness, a sense of belonging, spiritualism, and thus allowing a positive transformation to be welcomed into a new space.
