Don’t Mention It by Nathan Higgins

“When it comes to caring for people, I don’t know shit, but hopefully shit is enough!”

Don’t Mention It is a darkly comedic exploration of friendship and the discomfort of unwanted care. After Julian breaks his arm at a gig, his well-meaning friend Rico insists on nursing him back to health. What starts as a simple act of kindness, making Julian a sandwich and fetching meds, quickly spirals into a claustrophobic ordeal as Rico’s help turns more chaotic and intrusive. Confined to Julian’s small apartment, Don’t Mention It explores the unease of relying on others, especially when care starts to feel like control.

The play features experienced local actors Andrew T. Lyall and Jared Woolridge and is a debut play from filmmaker Nathan Higgins. This short play unravels with biting humor, offering an incisive look at vulnerability, control, and the uncomfortable reality of receiving help from the last person you’d want it from.

HIKO! is a perfectly curated selection for theatre fanatics, creatives and those looking for modern storytelling that has you on the edge of your seat! Don’t miss the chance to experience these electrifying Kirikiriroa voices:

  • Don’t Mention It by Nathan Higgins
  • Bottle Episode by Rye Inglis
  • Daylight Savings by Melanie Allison
  • Soliloquy by James Smith
