Toi Wāhine – Literary Salon # 14

In collaboration with Browsers Bookshop and The Meteor Theatre, we present a special Toi Wāhine Literary Salon. It’s our 14th Salon…can we call it a Sonnet?

Our local literary scene is full of creative and determined women, this Salon features three stars from an extraordinary line-up of Waikato based talent. How do we love them? Let us count the ways…they are the depth and breadth and height, our Salon can reach.. and this will be an inspiring evening for readers and writers to meet and converse. With special guest MC for the evening – Dr Nicola Daly!

Therese Lloyd is the author of two highly acclaimed poetry books: Other Animals, published by VUP in 2013, and The Facts, which came out in March this year. She has a doctorate in Creative Writing from Victoria University of Wellington and this year she is Waikato University’s Writer in Residence.

Tracey Slaughter’s fiction and poetry have won numerous awards, including the international Bridport Prize 2014, the Landfall Essay Prize 2015, and second place in the Peter Porter Poetry Prize 2018. Her collection of short stories deleted scenes for lovers (VUP) was published in 2016 to critical acclaim. She teaches at the University of Waikato, where she edits the literary journal Mayhem.

Catherine Chidgey’s fourth novel, The Wish Child, won the $50,000 fiction prize at the 2017 New Zealand book awards – the country’s richest writing prize. Radio New Zealand called it ‘a brilliant, brilliant novel…a masterpiece’, and The Times (UK) ‘a remarkable book with a stunningly original twist’. Her most recent honour is the Janet Frame Fiction Prize. Her ‘found’ novel, The Beat of the Pendulum, was released in November.
