Nau mai, haere mai! We’re bringing together the creativity of Waikato-based toi wāhine for an evening of arts that celebrate the mana wāhine in us all..
This inter-arts event aims to connect and explore mana wāhine from a past, present and future perspective. Creating a powerful space from which women, the holders of knowledge and life, are centred, to express this kaupapa.
We are so honoured to explore mana wāhine with these talented and legendary toi practitioners from our rohe and are humbled by their support:
Featuring “The Birth of the Voice” by Waimahi Hotere, accompanied by Horomona Horo. Followed by readings from ‘Queenie Queenie Nga Hine Ariki Nga Hine Kahurangi’ by poet Jude Roberts, who also has work in the Hine e Hine exhibition. Poet Maria Huata will perform some of her spoken word pieces and Nalani Wilson Hokowhitu will read her contemporary ancestral narrative ‘Ka Makana’. The evening will close with the soulful sounds of Vox Dawn.
Come along to inspire and activate your own mana wāhine…
“Me aro koe ki te hā o Hine-ahu-o-ne”- Pay heed to the dignity of women.
