The LITERARY SALON continues in 2018… With STANZA 12 on April 12th!
Browsers Bookshop and The Meteor Theatre present another line-up of three interesting local literary perspectives on Thursday April 12th at 7pm. Relax with a free glass of wine and canapés and enjoy an exchange of ideas at Stanza 12!
Poet Mere Taito, a Rotuman Islander, moved to NZ in 2007 and now lives in Hamilton. Her work has appeared in several international literary journals and anthologies. Mere’s voice is best described as political but occasionally she will untangle herself from themes of unrest and seek the calm of nature, family, friendship, and stories from children. She is keen to see how poetry can be used to teach critical thinking skills in both science and the arts.
Jenny Harrison has been writing for twenty years, with bestsellers in both South Africa and NZ. She has written novels but appears to have found her niche in writing about the experiences and human cost of World War II. Her latest book is Out of Poland, a Holocaust story. This tells not only of a Jewish family in Poland and what became of them but also the difficulties she encountered as a Gentile writing a Jewish story
Waikato Hospital consultant anaesthetist Dr Aidan O’Donnell specialises in pain relief for childbirth and is also a medical writer. His professional career is giving people mind-altering drugs and observing the effects. Most people (even other doctors) don’t really know what he does and as a result people fear anaesthesia greatly out of proportion to its true risks. He will talk about why anaesthetists have more in common with Jedi than you might think.
Come along to this inspiring and interesting evening for writers and readers to meet and converse, hosted by our fabulous MC Dr Mark Houlahan.
Tickets $15, includes a glass and some nibbles. Available now from Browsers Bookshop or online at www.themeteor.co.nz Or Door Sales at The Meteor.
