This Salon will feature some more great Waikato based literary talent.
Poet Bob Orr is back on home turf as Waikato University writer-in-residence. The winner of last year’s biennial Lauris Edmond Memorial Award for his distinguished contribution to NZ poetry, Orr has published seven collections, spanning five decades. We hope he will share some of his latest work.
Combining stunning visuals and a captivating narrative, Matthew McKinley’s graphic novel ‘Wars in the White Cloud’ dramatically describes the historical events which took place during the early years of New Zealand’s colonisation. Aimed at young adults this work brings history alive for a new generation.
‘Matariki; The Star of the Year’ is a new book by Dr Rangi Matamua (Tūhoe) who has researched extensively on Maori astronomy and star lore. This work explores what Matariki was in a traditional sense so it can be understood and celebrated in our modern society.
